Your headline is similar to a first impression. It can make or break your copy. Within seconds your copy could become golden or trash. A great headline can easily increase your sales. If your headline is not good, your copy on your sales page, blog, website, ad, etc. will more than likely not be read.
By having an attention grabbing headline your reader will be compelled to keep reading and when this happens you then have the opportunity to make money, build your list or whatever outcome you are looking to have.
Magazines and newspapers use great headlines to entice you to buy it and then read it. The headlines are the first thing you scan to see if you even want to read more. This concept is certainly not new.
Here are some ways you can easily create an attention grabbing headline:
1. Include the benefits. What is in it for the reader? Why should they read on?
2. Provide a quick overview. Tell the reader in a short and snappy way what your article is about.
3. Get them curious. Peak the reader’s curiosity some words that do this are (how to, secrets, top secret, confidential, private, etc.)
4. Target your market. Keep in mind your target market when creating your headline. Will humor be appreciated? What would interest your market?
5. Make them laugh. Whether having some outrageously unbelievable clam or just a funny spin on your features most readers will enjoy the laughter.
6. Short and sweet. Keep your headline at a 10 word max. Search engines only give high relevance to the first few words so if it makes sense include your main keyword phrase in the beginning.
7. Keep it simple. Use words that the majority of the population is familiar with. Make your headline an easy read.
8. Get to the point. Make only one point/idea in your headline. Too much info in a headline can be confusing.
9. Lists and how to. People love articles that are in list or how to format like “Top 10 Ways to Get Better Gas Mileage Now” or “How to Save $100 on Your Next Grocery Trip”.
The next time you need to write a headline pull out this list. Utilize as many of these attention grabbing headline creating tips as you can at once to increase your conversion rates. Whether you are writing for a blog or a sales page creating a compelling headline will do wonders in your business.
