The New York Times and the Battle for Free Content

Anyone in the media and news business knows that newspapers are dying rapidly. Even big, stalwart publishers like the New York Times and Wall Street Journal are having trouble funding their papers and getting readers to buy their products-especially when so much of it is free online. And that’s really the problem. As technology has moved forward, it has been easier and easier to get free content online rather than having to pay for a physical copy. Now the newspaper industry is falling apart. Most papers don’t know what to do, but the New York Times is trying to make some money back by cutting off all those freeloaders who read online by creating a pay-for-content model-online subscriptions.
